A director makes a film about her family in the little village Villereau in northern France, just by the border to Belgium. She follows what happens in the village during a time of severe crisis, where lack of information creates fear, paranoia and excesses among the villagers and her family. Based on the award winning short documentary Excess Will Save Us, the universe established in that film expands into a feature hybrid film depicting life in the countryside at a time of fundamental crisis in Europe and the Western world. This new account will retain its humor and visual force, but give a deeper understanding of the people that live there and the meaning of returning.

The location looks very much like Churchill Gardens, Pimlico, with Battersea Power Station in the background. And, plenty of smoking going on, in pubs, and on the tube. The film is strangely sexy in its own way, with the young girl playing along with the much older man, its really a sexual fantasy come true. It is another one of those British low budget film where the low budget adds to rather that take away value. Watch for fun, which is what it is.

This is the heart of a natural ecosystem threatened by a century of saltpeter and nitrate mining and recent geothermic exploitation. ALTIPLANO reveals this ancient land as a vibrating Ektachrome landscape, transformed through in-camera editing, complex 16mm pixelation and superimposition techniques into spaces that exist in a multitude of times simultaneously.
